International Delegation Demands Freedom for Mumia

Revolutionary Worker #911, June 15, 1997

On June 5 close to 100 people took part in a protest in Philadelphia in support of revolutionary political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal's demand for a new trial. An international delegation came to Philadelphia to demand that the city council take a stand in support of a new trial for Mumia. The delegation included Gamal Gorkeh Nkrumah, son of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah; David Dubois, stepson of W.E.B. Dubois; and Julia and Malcolm Wright, daughter and grandson of Richard Wright. The city council changed their meeting to the day before the protest at the last minute. The international delegation went to the city council chambers anyway. And in response to their demand, they were told there was nothing the city council could do.
