A Professor Donates $100 to the BA Everywhere Campaign

After discussing the BA Everywhere campaign and the importance of fund raising to make this happen, a friend who is visiting from the Caribbean went to a professor she knows. As a way of introducing this professor to Bob Avakian (BA) she showed him a video clip, "They're selling postcards of the hanging," that someone had e-mailed her. (She says she is certain that the person who sent her this YouTube clip from Avakian's 2003 Revolution talk had no idea who BA is, but received the clip from someone else and because she liked it, forwarded it to a bunch of people she knew.)

The professor knew of the RCP and BA, but hadn't had any contact with this movement for a very long time. My friend explained to the professor about BA's new synthesis and the re-envisioned communism. He was particularly taken with the role of artists and creative thinkers in this new society. He thought it was important that they were to be empowered. He also noted that it was important that the RCP and BA aren't just talking about how messed up society is, but they actually have a plan and vision for a different kind of world. This makes them different from anyone else out there.

It was clear from their conversation that the professor has a lot of disagreements with the RCP and BA's new synthesis and he still has a lot of illusions about the workability of democracy. But BA's new synthesis and vision of communism spoke to his highest aspirations for a better world. He agreed to donate $100 because he thinks it's important for diverse voices to be part of the discourse.
